8 Effective Parenting Techniques You Can Use in 2023

Parenting is one of the most exciting experiences that an individual can have in their lifetime. That said, it also happens to be one of the most challenging. Every parent wants to be the best possible parent, but knowing what to do is not always easy. Effective parenting involves many factors, including good communication, consistency, and setting appropriate boundaries. In this article, we’ll explore some steps you can take to become a more effective parent.

Establish clear boundaries

One of the most vital things you can do as a parent is to set clear boundaries and expectations for your children. Children need structure and routine to feel safe and secure. Ensure your child understands the rules and consequences of their actions, and stick to them consistently. This will help your child learn responsibility and accountability.

Focus on positive reinforcement

Acknowledging and praising your child when they do something well is essential. Children’s motivation can be significantly increased by using positive reinforcement. When your child makes wise decisions, compliment them, and help them understand the benefits of positive behavior.

Use active listening

Effective communication depends heavily on active listening. It involves genuinely hearing what your child is saying and responding in a way that shows you understand their perspective. This can help build trust and strengthen your relationship with your child.

Provide consistent discipline

Parenting involves enforcing rules and regulations, but it’s essential to ensure consistency and fairness. Ensure your kids know the repercussions of their actions, and follow through with appropriate discipline when necessary.

Model positive behavior

Children learn by example, so it’s important to model positive behavior in your own life. Show your child how to handle stress, communicate effectively, and manage their emotions. This can help your child build critical life skills they can use in the future.

Encourage independence

As your child grows and develops, it’s important to encourage independence. This means giving your child age-appropriate responsibilities and allowing them to make decisions for themselves. This can help build confidence and self-esteem.

Maintain open communication

Open communication is essential to a healthy parent-child relationship. Ensure your child feels comfortable coming to you with any concerns or questions. This can help build trust and strengthen your bond.

Show unconditional love

Finally, it’s important to show your child unconditional love and support. No matter what challenges your child may face, let them know you will always be there for them and love them. This can help your child develop a strong sense of self-worth and resilience.

In conclusion, effective parenting involves many factors, including clear boundaries, positive reinforcement, active listening, consistent discipline, modeling positive behavior, encouraging independence, maintaining open communication, and showing unconditional love. By following these steps, you can become a more effective parent and help your child develop into a happy, healthy, and successful adult. Remember, parenting is a journey, and it’s never too late to start making positive changes in your approach to parenting.

Rocking The Runway: 5 Catwalk Modelling Tips For Kids

Fashion has always been an expression of personality and style, and even kids these days are taking a keen interest in fashion. The runway is a place where fashion enthusiasts get to witness new fashion trends and styles. If your kid is into fashion, here are some tips to help them prepare for the runway:

Comfort is key

The first and foremost rule is to keep your kid comfortable. Comfortable clothes ensure your kid is confident and can walk on the runway without discomfort. Loose-fitting clothes and shoes that are not too tight or too high will ensure that your kid is comfortable throughout the show. Kids should also practice walking in their clothes and shoes before the show to avoid mishaps on the runway.

Practice, practice, practice

Practice makes perfect, and the same applies to walking on the runway. Kids should practice walking in their clothes and shoes to get used to the feel and to build confidence. Parents can help their kids practice by setting up a makeshift runway in the house and practicing with them. Walking confidently, maintaining good posture, and smiling will make your kid stand out on the runway.

Keep it simple

Kids are naturally cute and do not need many accessories to look good on the runway. Simple clothes with minimal accessories will make your kid stand out on the runway. Overdressing your kid can take the focus away from their cute and natural appearance. It’s best to let the clothes speak for themselves and let your kid’s natural charm shine through.

Good grooming

Good grooming is essential when it comes to walking on the runway. Kids should be well-groomed, with neat hair, clean nails, and clean clothes. A good grooming routine ensures your kid looks good and feels confident on the runway.

Confidence is key

The most crucial tip for walking on the runway is to be confident. Confidence is the key to making a lasting impression on the audience. Kids should walk with their heads held high, maintain good posture, and smile throughout the show. A confident walk will make your kid look comfortable and confident on the runway.

In conclusion, walking on the runway can be daunting for kids, but with the right preparation, they can be confident and comfortable on the runway. Comfortable clothes, practice, simplicity, good grooming, and confidence are the five tips that will make your kid stand out on the runway. Parents should also remember that the runway is a place to have fun and express oneself, so let your kid’s natural charm shine through and enjoy the experience.

How to Get Your Child Into Modelling: Top 5 Tips for Beginners

Child modelling can be a fun and exciting opportunity for children who enjoy being in front of the camera and love dressing up in cute outfits. However, you must be aware that the modelling industry can be competitive, so parents must be careful when choosing the right path for their children. Here are five tips on child modelling to help you get started:

Do Your Research

It’s crucial to do your research and learn about the industry. Look for reputable modelling agencies specializing in child modelling and have a good reputation in the industry. Read reviews, ask for recommendations, and talk to other parents who have experience with child modelling. It’s essential to ensure that your chosen agency has a child-friendly environment and a good track record of working with kids.

Get Professional Photos

A child’s modelling portfolio should include professional photos that showcase their unique features and personality. Look for a professional photographer who has experience in child modelling and can capture your child’s natural beauty. Avoid overly posed or edited photos; opt for natural shots that show your child’s personality and character.

Be Prepared for Auditions

Auditions are essential to child modelling, and parents need to be prepared for them. Ensure your child is well-rested, fed, and hydrated before the audition. Dress them in simple, age-appropriate clothing that shows off their natural beauty. Teach them how to introduce themselves and answer basic questions about their interests and hobbies.

Prioritize Your Child’s Safety and Well-being

Child safety should always come first in child modelling. Ensure that the modelling agency you choose has adequate safety measures in place to protect your child from potential harm. Never leave your child alone with strangers or in unfamiliar places; always accompany them to photoshoots or events. Ensure your child’s education and well-being are not affected by their modelling career.

Have Realistic Expectations

Child modelling can be an incredible experience, but it’s essential to have realistic expectations. Not every child will become a supermodel, and it’s vital to remember that the industry can be unpredictable. Don’t put too much pressure on your child; allow them to enjoy the experience without feeling overwhelmed or stressed. Remember that the most important thing is for your child to have fun and be happy.

In conclusion, child modelling can be an excellent opportunity for children who love fashion and enjoy being in front of the camera. By following these tips, parents can help their children have a safe and enjoyable modelling experience while achieving their goals.

Introducing The Rising Star Behind The Latest Issue Of StarCentral Kids: Layla David

Download Now

Layla David is a fashion enthusiast who hails from Mt. Druitt. She’s currently studying modelling, and her hobbies include reading, travelling, and exploring new places. She’s motivated by her goal to do well in the modelling industry and wants to keep growing and learning to improve. We caught up with Layla to ask her more about her journey in the industry, and here’s what happened.

How did you get into the modelling industry?

My older sisters are my inspiration. I saw them participating and joining pageants, so I wanted to follow in their footsteps. I started my first fashion show at 4, participating in different productions and fashion events. Since then, I got hooked and knew this was what I wanted.

What do you like most about pageantry/modelling?

I love to model different types of clothes. In my last modeling role, I modeled activewear, dresses, and casual clothes in one shoot. I had fun changing poses and looks to fit each type of clothing. I’m excited about this role because it would allow me to model various designs. In pageantry, what I love the most is the bond that I have with my co-candidates. I can also express and show what I am capable of. And most importantly, I gain friendships and wonderful experiences that I can treasure.

What has been the most memorable experience of being in the modelling/pageant industry so far?

One of the most memorable pageants I experienced was winning the Miss Little Earth Angel Fire 2021. I enjoyed and even found it inspirational to share my knowledge on saving food resources from being wasted by directly buying deformed fruits and vegetables from local farmers. For me, this is one way to show my advocacy as an environmental ambassador of goodwill.

What are your future plans? Inside modelling/pageantry or out of it.

I want to continue what I started. I will train harder and gain more knowledge so I can use it to improve. And become better at what I do. I want to constantly learn and grow until I become the best.

The first three days of the NGV Kids Summer Festival at NGV International are centred around this year’s summer blockbuster exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse drawing upon McQueen’s design inspirations and the influence of late ‘90s London. The hands-on activities, including hat designing and embroidery, celebrate McQueen’s creative process and capacity for storytelling. Melbourne musicians Shiny Coin bring their unique flair to the Great Hall, inviting children and families to channel their inner rock star in a pop-punk performance.  Inspired by McQueen’s collection Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious where makeup and face paint enhanced the collection’s narrative, children can have their faces painted in designs created by Melbourne make-up artist Nisal Atapattu, transforming them to look like mythical beings or intergalactic warriors.

From 17 to 19 January, families will enjoy Greek theatre-inspired games, watch traditional Greek dancing, and listen to stories of myths and legends in celebration of the 2022 NGV Architecture Commission: Temple of Boom, a contemporary reimagining of the Parthenon by Adam Newman and Kelvin Tsang. Melbourne-based, Greek-born artist Alkisti Pitsaki hosts storytelling sessions sharing myths and legends of Ancient Greece, and the Manasis School of Greek Dance and Culture introduces Hellenic history and culture while children take part in traditional dances. Visitors can also learn about Ancient Greek pottery by creating their own 3D vase using paper in an activity presented in collaboration with The Hellenic Museum

The final days of the NGV Kids Summer Festival, 20–22 January, will explore the NGV’s Collection of Asian Art with paper lantern-making workshops by Korean-Australian artist Suyeon Park, plus K-Pop dance performances and workshops by NV Dance Studio. Visitors can take part in meditative Tai Chi sessions with Tai Chi Australia accompanied by live music inspired by NGV’s China – The past is present exhibition. The festival’s final day on 22 January is dedicated to Lunar New Year with lion dance performances, live classical Chinese music by Guzheng instrumentalist QiQi, and complimentary NGV Lunar New Year red envelopes to gift to family and friends.

Throughout the NGV Kids Summer Festival, activities at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia are inspired by Indigenous Art from the NGV Collection, a diverse collection display of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and design. Children and their families can join Taungurung artist and author Cassie Leatham and her pet budgie Mr Beaky for a reading of her new book An Important Message FromMr Beaky about what it means to be an Aboriginal person in Australia. Children can ask Mr Beaky questions and hear him respond in Taungurung language. Visitors are also invited to join Indigenous textile designer, artist and educator, Taylah Aimee Eid in a weaving workshop to create their own woven creatures while learning new skills.

The free kids exhibition Julian Opie: Studio for Kids is open throughout the festival, offering a digital portrait-making activity inviting children and families to create their own artwork in the distinctive and bold style of leading British pop-artist Julian Opie. During the festival five Relaxed Sessions in the exhibition welcome visitors who would benefit from a quieter experience with fewer people and reduced sensory stimuli.

Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV, said: ‘This year’s NGV Kids Summer Festival offers kids and families the opportunity to learn about and explore unique parts of the NGV while introducing curious minds to fashion, architecture, art and design.
